"From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. “Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life.” Already here on earth the Christian life shares by faith in the blessed company of angels and men united in God." - Catholic Catechism 336
The most important prayer we can pray after the Lord's Prayer is the prayer to our Guardian Angel The stand beside us while we sleep, and they are there in the morning when we awake. The last prayer we should say before bed is also the first we should say upon waking. In Latin:
"Angele Dei, qui custos es mei, me tibi commissum pietate superna; hodie (hac nocte) illumina, custodi, rege, et guberna. Amen."
In English:
"Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here; ever this day (this night) be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen."
While there are several prayers to the Guardian Angels, the Angele Dei is the foremost of these. The following link lists many of the different prayers to these angels: Prayers to the Angels in Both Latin and English
You may have seen these You Tube videos, some of which will be posted here, where Father Thomas Brennan, in AI, speaks about Guardian Angels, teaching expressly from the Bible and the Baltimore Catechism. There is a compatible book to accompany the videos and the link is as follows: How to be a Good Catholic AI Father Brennan's lectures on several different topics pertaining to Church teaching are very detailed and filled with the knowledge we, as Catholics, were, and are, rarely taught. The videos themselves, while AI, speak to the Catholic world with the contents certainly serving their purpose of fulfilling unanswered questions and curiosities regarding death and angels. After watching these videos Catholics will come away with an education on Guardian Angels unparalleled to the teachings found in any catechism class including enlightening Catholics on how very important our Guardian Angels are to us, perhaps the most important beings in our lives after Jesus Christ.
Remember, never lose sight of the fact that your Guardian Angel is with you, 24/7, throughout every instance of your life from birth until death, protecting you, whispering to you in that still small voice, guiding you through your earthly journey, yet never interfering with your God-given free will. Remember to thank them, to love them, to talk to them, to pray to them. Call on them in times of need for God has given us access to His angels to guide us in all our ways, as His true messengers and helpers.
